History Weekend

During the last weekend of 2006 at a relative's house, we were presented with these objects from the past and had to guess what they are. Most of us were dumbfounded. Even the older people. See if you can guess what they are...

Then on New Year's Day we took my obaasan to a location from her past so that she could see what it looked like today and to see if she recalled anything. She told us that these leaves were used when steaming some food. The following are some commemorative objects that we encountered while touring the area.

Not quite as vast a memorial as the Arizona Memorial but this one is also a reminder of the devastating happenings back in 1941.

She mentioned the Clipper even before seeing this one. Wow, great memory.

So the first object must be a milk bottle carrier when you went to get milk or was this for delivery to your home?

The second item looks like you pop it in the spout of a bottle to make a dispenser.

Not sure what the clip thing is.

Is the last item, a wax seal for envelopes? Melt some wax, stamp your seal, and people know it from you (and hasn't been opened)? I think in IA Level 1training, that's non-repudiation and integrity.

That be my guesses.

First one was from a glass milk bottle that I think they said were delivered. (One guess, and she was being facetious, was that it looked like part of a bicycle bell.)

Second one was used to pop into a glass bottle of water to, not water plants or stick in anyone's arse, but to sprinkle on and soften clothing in the starching process they utilized. There was no permanent press at that time.

Third is part of a hair roller. MSO guessed this one correctly 'cause his moms had it.

The last is indeed a type of seal for envelopes for letters they wrote. Remember when there was no e-mail?! And yes, it was kind of a signature thing where the seal used was supposed to be unique to the sender. We tried using it but it appeared the wax was too old and would not melt as it should've.

Pretty good Gee Why, and beware for any of e's adversaries. =)
